What's this Hunter guy all about?
Hunter Knolmayer was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey in 1990. He was always intrigued with art and acquired a passion for creating in his wee years. Drawing was a daily routine, and became his addiction and his purpose. There was no option other than to find a way to make a living doing art, so right after graduating High School in 2008, Hunter began attending Ocean County College, In Toms River, New Jersey. He enrolled in art and design classes going towards two degrees in Visual Communication Technologies; one in Computer Graphics, the other in Photography. Though he was excelling in school, and excited for the future; learning the skills necessary for a career making art, something magical happened that changed his life forever.
On April 20th, 2009, a childhood friend, Shawn Webber gave Hunter his first tattoo. Blown away by the experience, he fell into a form of art he never saw coming. It didn't take long for him to slowly lose interest in graphic design. Despite being one semester away from two degrees, Hunter had been viciously swallowed into the depths of tattoo hell, and began putting all of his time and energy into studying tattoo art and building his skills. New Jersey was chill and all, but after a while of working there, he decided to get as far away from the state as possible, or at least about 3,000 miles. The next adventure ahead of him was in the summer of 2011, when he moved to San Diego, California; in the pursuit of learning more about tattooing, and working with other artists to expand his vision.
Hunter is currently tattooing at Funhouse Tattoo in Pacific Beach, California. Though he plans on keeping San Diego, California as his home base, Hunter is currently planning quite a bit of travel as an opportunity to work alongside tattooers across the country and be exposed to different styles of art.

"Some of my earliest childhood memories are of painting and drawing,
often falling asleep with a pencil in my hand. It wasn't a surprise that I would pursue working in the arts, however it was a true blessing that tattooing had fallen into my lap. After high school I began attending a community college in New Jersey where I studied Visual Communications Technologies, Computer Graphics and Photography. At the time I had begun attending classes, I got my first tattoo from a childhood friend I had grown up with.
I was intrigued by the art form,
yet had no idea where it would take me. After diving into the medium and apprenticing at a local shop, as well as a few years of tattooing, it was time for a change of pace, and new opportunities for learning and studying the craft. I moved to San Diego with a lot of motivation and determination to start a fresh career on the other side of the country. I've been blessed by all of my encounters with artists and shops I've worked at; good and bad. For being where I am today, I can thank my loyal customers for making this journey possible. I recently just finished school and obtained an associates degree in Fine Arts- Digital Media (gotta make momma happy) I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of art and design, which apply directly to my approach of tattooing."

My Idealogy
My Ideology on life is pretty simple, I guess... I'm a firm believer in karma, and the flow of positive and negative energy. I enjoy working on pieces that encompass this duality. I like to emphasize rhythm, balance, and harmony in my work. It's all about the flow
My Artistic Vision
As a prior graphic design student, having had taken many courses on design, my main goal with tattooing is to provide a one of a kind piece of artwork that conforms to the body. I like for clients to approach me with a concept, and to bring together different ideas in one comprehensive layout that complements the musculature of the human canvas. There are plenty of "tattooers" out there that can recreate things well, but that's not all I do. I am an artist by heart, and this desire to go above and beyond reflects in my work. I have no problem doing little tattoos, but I prefer large pieces. I am very into "biomechanical", and "bio-organic styles", as well as "illustrative" neotraditional and newschool pieces. I enjoy doing Realism, Geometric Dotwork and black and grey as well. Click here to see some of my recent TATTOOS , or here to see some ARTWORK . To set up an appointment, check out my CONTACT page.
